Pediatric Eye Disorders
Prevention and Treatment
Even if no eye or vision problems are apparent, we still recommend scheduling your baby’s first eye assessment at 6 months. Things that we will test for include excessive or unequal amounts of nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism, eye movement ability and ocular health assessment. We usually utilize a longer lasting dilating eye drops to relax the eye muscles to determine the refractive error. These problems are not common, but it is important to identify children who have them at this young age. Vision development and eye health problems are easier to correct if treatment begins early.
Myopia (nearsightedness) is commonly diagnosed in childhood and usually progress over time, increasing the risk of more severe sight conditions later in life. Our office offers treatment for controlling myopia for children and teens.
